Continuing Business/Reports

  • Report: Disaster Preparedness Committee Update
    • SUNA EPC (“Emergency Preparedness Committee”) has 9 members.
    • Met on May 14, June 10, July 2.  Next meeting scheduled for August 6 at EMU with UO Emergency Planning Group.  Focus will be the predominantly student blocks in SUNA.
    • The members are “beta” testing taking on different parts of the neighborhood. Goal is to meet with the folks, share the Map Your Neighborhood video, and eventually get block captains and central place to go in a disaster.  They will be at the neighborhood picnic.
  • Updates re: housing/codes/Planning HB 2001
    • Historic Designation information:  Nancy did quite a bit of research and it appears that it is unlikely to be voted on positively and it may do little to actually protect against HB 2001.
    • Bill and Carolyn report that the effect of 2001 is unknown, e.g. will state require City to increase density limits in R-1, or do cities have leeway?  Bill thinks cities will challenge 2001.  There is a lot of confusion around it.
    • 600+ bedroom student apartment complex with 90 parking spaces proposed for the Café Yumm site on Hilyard.
    • Should SUNA write letter @ADU’s per NLC request?  The issue is somewhat moot due to 2001, but board voted to give Carolyn power to move forward on a letter for the city to do research on all the parts of the city that are covered by CC&R’s and therefore exempt from 2001. Carolyn will share any proposed letter with us.
    • City Club is having Senator Manning this Friday. Senator Manning flipped his vote in the second vote call to support 2001, passing.
  • Edison updates
    • New Edison Elementary School Planning Meeting, August 12, 6:00-7:00 p.m., Roosevelt Middle School.
    • Friday, September 6, 4-6 p.m. Edison Block Party.  We will have a table.  Advertise:  monthly meetings, October General Meeting, DPC, SUNA Board membership.  Nancy will ask Marsha S. to lead our involvement.
    • Entry way retained or rebuilt or recreate it larger?  What would it add to have the same historic feel?  What would it cost?  Sell bricks to raise funds?
  • General mtg : Summer picnic/University Park
    • August 17, 2019, 6-7:30 p.m.
    • Flyer distribution:  Board members are taking a section of the neighborhood and walk the flyers around. We are walking them around in order to afford another mailing in the fall.
    • Ian is coming and bringing the large lawn games.
    • The board decided not to do a raffle this year.
    • Kari will do set up tasks and Bill will do the day-of prep.  Get a receipt for the retail cost of the ice cream and our discounted price.  We need a 50/50 match to get City funds to pay for our picnic costs.
    • Tracy will bring a jar for “tips.”
    • Connie to bring boombox.
    • Bill to bring.
    • Marcia R. will check with City on what they can offer us for the picnic.
    • EPC will be at the Picnic.
  • Fall General mtg
    • Eugene 350/Linda Perrine – 20-30 minutes, including questions
    • EPC informational heads up – 10 minutes
    • Edison update – 10 minutes
    • Pushed to a future meeting:  City of Eugene Police Auditor’s Office to share the protocol for submitting complaints and commendations for the Eugene Police Department, and answer any questions community members may have about the office and/or EPD-related concerns.
    • Carolyn will check in with Rene on hate and bias status update and potentially a training.
    • Bike registration? Lauren can reach out again to the crime prevention folks to ask if they can come.

Good of the Order and Neighborhood updates/announcements

  • Air BnB update:  Bill and Carolyn reported that it will likely come up at the NLC meeting next week.  Nancy will reach out to Alan on this.
  • Eugene Parade:  Sunday, September 22.  Carolyn will ask at the NLC if there is interest in neighborhoods marching.
  • Unprepared: Film about earthquake preparedness.  Board would like to show it in the neighborhood.  Lauren will look into it.  Apparently it can be shown as long as we don’t charge for it.  Natural History Museum showing had speakers, as well, which was very well attended.  January 24 is the Great Shakeout Day.  This could be our January General Meeting, with speakers.  We could invite Fairmount and Amazon, show it at RMS.

Next meeting: Monday, August 19, 7-8:30, Marcia R.  1240 East 22nd Avenue
