University Park Renovation Update

After several delays, the City of Eugene is beginning to plan for the long-awaited University Park renovation. Mark Kosmos, Landscape Architect with the City of Eugene Parks and Open Space, says the City will be engaging neighbors to understand what we would like to see in the updated park. He encourages our community to sign up for updated schedules and plans on the new University Park project page

SUNA is asking volunteers to join a new neighborhood committee to work on plans for the park. If interested, please contact info@sunaeugene.com.

It’s been many years since any major work has been done at our park, other than installing a safer slide, and we know neighbors are eager for the work to begin. There have been delays so other neighborhoods that have expressed a more urgent need could move forward.

SUNA has understood the city has a limited budget for these types of projects, so funds have been raised to enable a more significant renovation. This is one reason why SUNA agreed to work with Jeff Petry in City Parking and the World Athletics Championships Track Committee to create paid permit parking in our neighborhood during the World Track Meet in summer 2022. Parking permits netted more than $30,000, all of which is allocated for equipment for the University Park renovation.

Additionally, several years ago neighbors shared ideas with a survey to begin creatively thinking about renovation ideas.
